Chrétien de Troyes was a French poet during the late twelfth century. Little is known about his life except that he served at the court of Marie de France, Countess of Champagne, between 1160 and 1172. He is famous for his five Arthurian romances: Erec and Enide, Cligès, Yvain, the Knight of the Lion and Lancelot, The Knight of the Cart, and Perceval, the Story of the Grail. TLM
