Peter Lombard was a scholastic theologian of the twelfth century. Of humble origin, his talent helped him to find patrons for his education, and he rose quickly to fame on account of his brilliance as a scholar, teacher, and writer. His Libri Quatri Sententiarum , a massive work that systematically addressed a comprehensive list of theological issues by collecting passages from Scripture, the Church Fathers, and Medieval Theologians, was the standard theological textbook at universities into the seventeenth century.
