Etienne de Bourbon was born at Belleville near Lyon in the end of the twelfth century. He studied in Paris around 1220 and then entered the Order of Preachers, a Catholic religious order in France. From 1230, he worked as a preacher and inquisitor throughout France. His work for preachers, called De septem donis Spiritus Sancti, describes the various sects and superstitions of his time. TLM
