Leonardo Bruni of Arezzo was one of the foremost Florentine humanists of the early Renaissance. Chancellor of Florence from 1427-1444, Bruni has been hailed as the first modern historian for his History of the Florentine People; he was also the author of letters, educational treatises, and panegyric.
