Asser was a Welsh monk of St. David’s who left the monastery for the court of King Alfred around 885 at the King’s invitation, to join the circle of educated men in the court at that time. Around 890 he became Bishop of Sherborne. Asser is best known for his biography of Alfred. For more information, see:
