Theodore Balsamon was a deacon nomophylax (Guardian of the Laws) and was in charge of all ecclesiastical trials from 1178 to 1183 in Constantinople. He became the patriarch of Antioch in 1193. His best work, Scholia , is a commentary on Nomocanon of Photios, which is a standard text on law. He also wrote a collection of ecclesiastical constitutions and letters. TLM
