Bede was a monk in northern England. He is best known for writing Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum (The Ecclesiastical History of the English People), one of the earliest histories of England, and is considered the father of English history. He was very well-learned, and also wrote scientific, historical, and theological works.
