Abbot of Peterborough from 1177 until his death, Benedict had been a monk of Christ Church, Canterbury and was an eyewitness to the death of Thomas Becket. He was involved in royal government as a diplomat and judge, but as an author is primarily known for his biographic work on Becket. Note that he was formerly regarded as the author of the Gesta Henrici II which is now attributed to Roger of Howden. For more information, see:
