A professor at the University of paris and the eighth Minister General of the Franciscan order, Bonaventure was one of the most influential of the scholastic theologians. Apart from his many theological works, Bonaventure also wrote defenses of the Franciscan order’s rule of poverty (written during a period of increasing speculation over how strictly it should be followed) and a number of mystical works.
