Clement is considered to be the first bishop of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. He spent a part of his life in Great Moravia in Central Europe on a mission with the saints Cyril and Methodius. In order to resist the influence of the Byzantine Empire and the use of Greek in Bulgaria, Boris I created schools for the Slavic languages. Clement advocated and taught Old Slavonic for use in the liturgy and spread the Glagolitic alphabet. His writings include hagiographies and translations of church songs. TLM
