Margaret Ebner, born to a rich family at Donauworth in southern Germany, entered the Dominican convent at Maria-Medingen in 1306. Although severely ill for much of her adult life, Margaret tried to practice a severe ascetic lifestyle and constantly sought penance for her sins. Margaret’s correspondence with Henry of Nördlingen, her spiritual represent advisor, speaks of her mystical visitions of the Christ child. Her correspondence with Henry and other advisors represent one of the earliest letter collections in the German language. TLM
