Gregory of Nyssa is known as one of the Cappadocian Fathers of the Eastern Church along with his brother Basil the Great and friend Gregory of Nazianzius. Around 371, he became the bishop of Nyssa, located in present-day Turkey. He played a prominent role in the fourth-century controversy over the Trinity. His writings include exegeses, treatises on ascetic and Christian life, arguments against Arian heretics, sermons and letters. TLM
