Hartmann von Aue was a Middle High German poet from Swabia in southwestern Germany. He served as a knight for the Lords of Aue and took part in the Crusades in 1189 or 1197. His most famous poems are the Arthurian epics Erec and Iwein, translated from works by Chrétien de Troyes, and Gregorius and Der arme Heinrich. TLM
