Magister Rolandus was an important decretist and teacher of canon law at Bologna in the 1150s. Although he was once thought to be the same man as Pope Alexander III, scholars now consider the author of the Summa on Gratian as separate. Little is know about Rolandus except that he wrote a letter to Frederick Barbarossa requesting he reconsider the expulsion of some scholars from Bologna
