Robert Manning was born in Bourne, Lincolnshire and spent most of his life at the house of the Gilbertine Canons at Sempringham and another nearby priory except for a brief period in Cambridge. He is known for two translations: Handlyng Synne from the Anglo-Norman Manuel des Peches by William of Waddington and the Chronicle from Wace’s Roman de Brut and Piers Langtoft’s Chronicle. TLM
