Michael Psellus was a Byzantine philosopher, monk, politician and historian. Born in Constantinople, Psellus was well educated and quickly rose in rank in the court. He became a political advisor to Constantine IX and continued to have influence on Byzantine emperors through Michael VII Doukas. He briefly left the court to become a monk but soon returned. His most famous work is a history called Chronographia. TLM
