Marino Sanuto, called Torsello, (c.1270-1334) came from the patrician Sanudi family of Venice and was a strong advocate for continued Latin intervention in the Near East. Extremely well-read, Sanudo consulted a wide range of sources (which he fails to adequately cite), classical and contemporary. He was also well-traveled, claiming to have spent much of his life in Greece, the Near East and France.
