Snorri Sturluson was born in 1178 into a wealthy and powerful family in Iceland. He was involved in politics, becoming the speaker at the Icelandic assembly, the Althing, and as a diplomat for King Haakon of Norway to extend the king’s rule to Iceland. This alliance resulted in many conflicts through the rest of his life and eventually his death in 1241. Snorri was the author of Prose Edda, which is made of thre books: Gylfaginning (Norse mythology), Skáldskaparmála (guide to poetic language) and Háttatal (a list of verse forms). TLM
