Very little is known about Caspar Weinreich himself, although he seems to have belonged to an established merchant family in Danzig. The name Weinreich appears frequently in sources from Danzig beginning in the late fourteenth century. It is certain that he was not a member of the patriciate or council, but he was almost surely a burgher of the city and probably was himself a merchant.
