Project Status: Ongoing

A searchable database of images of European manuscripts created before 1550 containing polyphonic music. Also provides information about the contents of many more manuscripts of which images are not available, and a searchable bibliography of related secondary literature.

The manuscript image database may be browsed by cities and sigla, or searched by location, genre, composer, or text. Digitized manuscripts may be viewed on the DIAMM site with the creation of a free registered account, and users may create and organize collections of manuscripts and pages, and add comments. The entry for each manuscript includes a complete description, related bibliography, table of contents, and information about relationships (e.g. manuscript provenance, related manuscripts). Licensing of manuscript images varies by institution, and manuscript images may not be downloaded from this site.
